Catching up on the news or scrolling through social media may have you wondering: “Geesh, what else can happen?” I have learned over the years not even to think that question, and NEVER to say: “Well, it can’t get any worse.” Would you say that I am sticking my head in the sand? Some people may think that – but I choose not to let the negatives get me down.
There are many schools of thought that would argue: “Whatever you think – good or bad – ends up coming your way.” Weird, right? But this is often true in life.
Typically, people with upbeat, positive opinions of life spend time together while the “glass half empty” crowd flocks together. It is rare to find people crossing those boundaries for long periods. If you subscribe to the thought that “You are what you think,” a person in an optimistic headspace will find it easier to maintain that optimism. On the flip side, a person stuck in a negative place will often remain there unless you make a conscious decision to short-circuit those thoughts and actively work to focus on a positive mindset.
Step one is to ask yourself “Is what I am doing daily bringing me closer to my goals?” If not, you may need to reevaluate your thoughts and actions. Only you can truthfully answer that question. Be easy on yourself – you can gradually move to a more positive outlook and then positive things will be coming your way!
Good luck, you’ve got this!
